A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding a Hindu to perform religious rituals on the Shivling found at the Gyanvapi site in Varanasi. Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Mukti Dal President Rajesh Mani Tripathi has filed a petition and said that since the month of Shravan is starting, Hindus should be allowed to worship and perform rituals of Shivling.
The judgment in the Ayodhya temple case held that once a deity, there is always a deity and that the temple does not lose its character, sanctity or dignity when it is demolished. After the survey, Shivling has also been found in this premises, so being a worshiper, if there is a Shivling, then his right to worship also survives.
Rajesh Mani Tripathi, president of Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Mukti Sthal, in his petition presented before the court, has said that the month of Shravan is beginning, Hindus should be allowed to perform pujas and practice "freedom of conscience and religion" as described in Article 25 of the Constitution of India ie freedom of free profession, practice and publicity".
