India’s Home Minister Amit Shah has reportedly said that the school dress should be accepted by the people of all religions. However, he said that this is his personal view and he would go by the court verdict which is hearing the matter.
According to reports, Home Minister Shah has made this statement to an interview with the Network18 Group which will be aired on Monday night.
"It is my personal belief that people of all religions should accept the school's dress code," Home Minister Shah said according to the reports.
He also added, “Ultimately, it has to be decided whether the country will function on the Constitution or whims. My personal belief only remains until the court makes a decision. And once the court makes a decision, then I should accept it, and everyone should accept it."
His statement gains a lot of significance in the wake of a raging controversy over allowing hijab in schools and educational institutions in the country.
The issue has become a national debate and communal confrontation between two religious groups after a college in Karnataka stopped a group of students from attending classes because they were wearing hijab.
The right-wing people have also reacted to it and criticised it severely. The matter is at present pending in High Court where the students have approached with their plea to allow them to sit in the classroom with hijab.
Thought Union Minister Amit Shah has clarified that though his person view is that students show follow the school dress, he would go by the court’s verdict.
