Operation Ganga: 219 Indians reach Mumbai from a special flight
The Indian government has lifted 219 Indian nationals who were stuck in war-hit Ukraine. These nationals were first taken to Bucharest, the capital of Romania by road. Civil aviation has been suspended in Ukraine due to war and its airspace has been closed.
The Indian government has lifted 219 Indian nationals who were stuck in war-hit Ukraine. These nationals were first taken to Bucharest, the capital of Romania by road. Civil aviation has been suspended in Ukraine due to war and its airspace has been closed.
Due to this no flight is being operated and Indian nationals are being moved to Romania and Hungry and they are being airlifted for there. The government has named this evacuation operation Operation Ganga.
The Indian embassy in Ukraine has also informed in a tweet that the situation at various border checkpoints is sensitive and the Embassy is working continuously with our Embassies in our neighbouring countries for coordinated evacuation of our citizens.
Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Govt. of India has welcomed all the nationals in Mumbai as he wrote on his Twitter, “Welcome back to the motherland! Glad to see the smiles on the faces of Indians safely evacuated from Ukraine at the Mumbai airport. Govt. led by PM @NarendraModi ji is working relentlessly to ensure safety of every Indian.”
External Affairs Minister of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar retweeted his tweet with his comment, “Welcome back. First step of #OperationGanga.
Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar has also said that BMC is making all preparations for hassle-free testing and other facilities for these people.
She said, "These are our children who are coming back to their homeland. So we as BMC are doing all the preparation for them. If they want to go anywhere, their testing, vaccination, food, anything, we will be bearing their expenses.”
