The World Health organisation has said the Omicron cases are becoming double in three days in those areas where its community transmission has started happening.
The world health body has said that it is not clear whether this variant is able to evade immunity however it says that it is spreading in those areas where people have immunity.
So far as the clinical severity of this variant is concerned, the WHO has said that it is not clear whether this variant is causing any severity or it is just mild. This is because there is very limited data available about this particular variant.
The WHO had declared Omicron as the variant of Concern on November 26 and since then this variant has spread to about 90 countries in the world.
Countries across the world are looking for ways to contain the virus. Some countries like the United States of America and the United Kingdom have started administering booster does for their citizens.
They believe that the antibody level wanes after a few months and such people need a booster dose. Even despite the booster dose, there are people who have contracted Omicron. However, fortunately, as of now, the severity is very low due to which many of them are not hospitalised.
The WHO says that it needs more data to understand the impact of Omicron on the immune profile of people.
"More data are needed to understand the severity profile and how severity is impacted by vaccination and pre-existing immunity,” the World Health Organisation said while talking about the threat from this variant.
