"Nirbhaya Squad", special squad consisting of women officials launched by the Mumbai Police

Mumbai Police has always been quite popular for using creative ways of promulgating ordinances and crucial messages. They have done it again. The Mumbai Police in association with the filmmaker Rohit Shetty released a short film to promote awareness about the "Nirbhaya Squad", and what better day to release that than a National Festival. The Mumbai police had formed the special squad which only had women officials to prevent sexual harassment and other crimes against women. The helpline number '103' has been made operational in this regard.

The Mumbai Police tweeted, " “Laangh Ke Ab Tu Laxman Rekha, Ban Nidar, Ban Nirbhaya! Fearless women - a trademark of Mumbai! And now a dedicated squad, which is a reflection of the fearlessness amongst the women in this city - Nirbhaya Squad."

The squad was formally launched this afternoon in the presence of Maharashtra Minister Dilip Walse Patil. It was launched during a program at the Mumbai Police Commissioner's office. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was also the part of the launch via the mode of video conferencing. The Film Director, Rohit Shetty donated 50 lakhs Rupees for the initiative. The two-minute video, voiced by megastar Amitabh Bachchan, was launched for Women safety. Bollywood Celebrities from Vicky Kaushal to Sonakshi Sinha posted about the squad.

These squad comprises of specially trained female and male officers that will be stationed across Mumbai 24x7, One can dial 103 for immediate assistance and the squad will be there with them in no time.
