Navjot Singh Sidhu Remark On Rohit Sharma, 'Playing under Hardik Pandya does not make Rohit Sharma smaller'
Navjot Singh Sidhu Remark On Rohit Sharma: Navjot Singh Sidhu, former India opener, shares his opinion on the Mumbai Indians' captaincy change for the IPL 2024 season. The team is now led by Hardik Pandya, who replaced Rohit Sharma. He led MI to five IPL titles during his tenure.
The former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu agreed, as he discussed Rohit Sharma's legacy and Hardik Pandya's recent switch to captain the Mumbai Indians.
This past off-season, Pandya, who captained Gujarat Titans for the past two seasons, returned to Mumbai in a trade. The Indian team skipper stepped aside to let Pandya take over.
MI fans reacted negatively, while several experts expressed their opinions, including player-turned-politician Sidhu's.
"I have played in an Indian team where five captains used to play together. Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Ravi Shastri. Pick up a brick and you will find a captain both above and below it. There were no issues because they were playing for their nation. The motivation was to play for your country. So playing under Hardik does not make Rohit smaller," said Sidhu on a Star Sports show.
"Dhoni has passed the baton already and that could have happened in Mumbai Indians as well....They (MI) gave it three years (after 2020) and when it did not work (in producing another title), they got a new person for the job. You need to accept it," said Sidhu.
"But Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni are great players. A dwarf is a dwarf even if he is standing at the top of a mountain and a God is a God even if they are standing at the bottom of a well."
In his ten years as MI's skipper, Rohit has cemented his legacy as one of the most decorated captains in the history of the IPL.
In IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad, both teams seeking their first win.
