Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 21 to join the investigation of the National Herald case. Let us tell you that earlier Sonia Gandhi had extended the date of appearance before the ED. Accepting Congress President Sonia Gandhi's request, the ED has asked her to appear before the probe agency sometime by the end of July to record her statement in the alleged money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper.
In this case, the ED had questioned former Congress President Rahul Gandhi for more than 50 hours in five days. During this, his statements were recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The Congress maintains that the allegations leveled against its top leaders are baseless and the ED's action is being taken as part of vendetta politics. He also said that the party and its leadership are not going to bow down.
Sonia Gandhi had urged the ED to extend the date of her appearance by a few weeks in view of her ill health. The ED accepted his request. The Congress President was to appear today i.e. on June 23. Sources had said that the federal probe agency has postponed the proposed questioning of Sonia Gandhi for four weeks and now she has been asked to appear before the end of July and record her statement.
The Congress president was summoned by the ED on June 23 in connection with an alleged money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper. He was summoned by the ED earlier on June 8, but after the Covid infection, he was called on June 23.
