Mukhtar Ansari's brother-in-law Atif Raza sent on 7-day remand, in ED custody in money laundering case
Agrahari said the defense lawyers argued that if Atif Raza is given custody of the ED, his medical facilities should be looked into as Atif is suffering from cancer.
The District Court of Prayagraj on Tuesday sent the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to seven days custody of Atif Raza alias Sharjeel Raza, brother-in-law of mafia Mukhtar Ansari, in a money laundering case. District government advocate (criminal) Gulab Chandra Agrahari said that in the case of Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the ED produced the accused Atif Raza alias Sharjeel Raza in the court of District Judge Santosh Rai on Tuesday.
He said that the ED, by giving an application under 167 (2) CrPC, requested Atif Raza to be in custody for 14 days. Agrahari said the defense lawyers argued that if Atif Raza is given custody of the ED, his medical facilities should be looked into as Atif is suffering from cancer.
He also said that the court after hearing both the sides passed the order that the accused be given in ED custody from November 8 to November 15. According to him, the court said that the ED will conduct a medical examination of the accused before taking him into custody and the accused can take legal advice from his advocate. According to Agrahari, the court also said that but the counsel for the accused would not interfere in the proceedings of the ED.
