Muharram 2022: Muharram is being celebrated today, know what is its history
The battle of Karbala took place between the army of Hazrat Imam Hussain and Emperor Yazid. According to the beliefs, on the tenth day in the month of Muharram, Hazrat Imam Hussain sacrificed his life to protect Islam. That is why Muharram is celebrated on the 10th day of the month of Muharram.
According to the Islamic calendar, the month of Muharram in India started on 31 July 2022 and Ashura is on its 10th day i.e. 9 August. Which is also called the day of mourning in the Muslim community. On the other hand, the month of Muharram is known as the month of sorrow. The Islamic calendar is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar and (Muharram 2022 Date) therefore the Islamic calendar has 354 days, not 365.
Ashura falls on the 10th day after the month of Muharram and this month started on 31st July. According to this, today the vehicle is Ashura on 9th August, which is also called the day of mourning. Let us tell you that in countries where the month of Muharram started on 30 July, Muharram was celebrated on 8 August. Whereas in many countries including India, it is being celebrated on 9 August.
