Assembly elections are to be held in Madhya Pradesh by the end of this year, but before that the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee has stepped up its election preparations to return to power in the state. According to the information, the state Congress has also started the process of finalizing the candidates. The names of at least 60-65 candidates, who are considered strong candidates, including some senior leaders of the Congress party, will be finalized soon and they will be asked to start their campaign in their respective constituencies.
Sources said Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath had initiated the process of taking feedback from party workers during Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, which would pass through the Malwa-Nimar region in November-December 2022. A senior Congress leader told IANS that when Kamal Nath was taking part in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, he was taking feedback from party leaders and workers in various assembly constituencies and matching them with the findings of internal surveys in those constituencies.
Sources told IANS that Kamal Nath has started selecting new candidates on the basis of their reputation. However, the new faces will be those who have been working for the party for at least a decade and if their acceptance among the people is high. Hence, it is believed that there will be a long list of new candidates for the upcoming assembly elections, but the names will not be announced officially. Instead, these candidates will be informed by the party about their candidature and asked to start work on the ground, possibly six months before the election.
