Meta Layoffs: Mark Zuckerberg to Cut 3,000+ ‘Lowest Performers’ Next Week
The memo sent by CEO Mark Zuckerberg to all employees regarding how the organization is operating in enhancing the overall performance by throwing out those who are not up to expectations in a certain way faster than the previous state.
Meta Layoffs: Meta Platforms Inc. will now terminate nearly 5% of its least-performing staff during this year, which has been reported by Bloomberg. The announcement was part of an internal memo by CEO Mark Zuckerberg and focused on improving performance overall by moving out underperformers more quickly than before.
By September, the workforce employed about 72,000 persons. Thus, if the company were to cut a percentage of 5, it would translate into about 3,600 jobs lost.

In part, the goal of attrition indicated in the memo is non-regrettable and up to 10% by December of the current performance cycle. This comprises around 5% even from 2024 alone. Generally affected will be employees who fall under the performance review cycle at Meta and have been there long enough to receive such a review but do not measure uptodate with benchmarks as defined by Meta.
The company said the affected individuals would be provided with "generous severance."
This pronouncement coincides with efforts from Meta to continue reorganizing its policies and functions, thereby affecting the Group under Zuckerberg's 'Year of Efficiency' program, started to maximize costs and streamline the organization.
Meta has slashed thousands of employees in one whole year- realigning teams and cutting costs to be able to operate profitably.
The waves of layoffs coincide with what is considered at least procedural strategic and policy shifts at Meta, some of which had already seen heated debate both inside and outside the company.

Recently, Meta admitted to such modifications on its content moderation policy, now allowing some posts to be taken that speak on more controversial issues such as immigration and transgender rights. The clear intention here is to "allow free expression." Yet, it has been frowned upon by employees and the outside world with criticism on how this may endanger marginalized communities.
Meta cut internal programs aimed at improvement of diversity in the workplace. These have, however, been condemned as a departure from keeping to previously state commitments regarding inclusivity.
