Medical colleges will be built in 6 more districts of Uttar Pradesh, tender issued by the government

Medical colleges are going to be given in six districts of Uttar Pradesh. Taking forward the One District, One Medical College programme, the Yogi government has issued tenders for opening medical colleges on PPP model in 6 districts. Through the tender process, investors will be selected to open medical colleges in Mahoba, Mainpuri, Baghpat, Hamirpur, Hathras and Kasganj. The central government has given consent to open more medical colleges in six districts under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme.

Principal Secretary Medical Education Alok Kumar said, "Uttar Pradesh is the first state which has issued tenders to open medical colleges on PPP model. The details of the tenders have also been uploaded on the Gem portal. The ministry has given permission to open medical colleges in six districts on PPP mode under the VGF scheme. It will cost about Rs 1525 crore to open them and the central government will bear the subsidy of about Rs 1012 crore.

He further said, "On an average, a college will get a subsidy of Rs 160 crore. Under this, the work has started by selecting investors to open medical colleges in Maharajganj and Shamli. Treatment is likely to start in Maharajganj by next year." Apart from this, medical colleges in Shamli and Mau are under process."

Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, Medical Education said, "This is a big step in the direction of providing better and accessible medical services to the common people of CM Yogi. Accepting the proposal of the Central Government will save the money of the State Government. The district will give the hospital and the land on lease for 33 years. After that, the investor will hand over the medical college. It will be the property of the state government, along with stamp duty exemption and equipment subsidy, etc."
