Frustrated over the delay in their evacuation process, some students who are stranded in Sumy city of Ukraine circulated a video in which they are apparently saying they are going to march towards the Russian border in the middle of bombing and firing.
They are showing their frustration in the video for not being evacuated. After the video emerged on social media, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on its Twitter handle in which it advised the students to stay inside the shelters and take safety precautions.
Arindam Bagchi, Official Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs tweeted, “Have advised our students to take safety precautions, stay inside shelters and avoid unnecessary risks. Ministry and our Embassies are in regular touch with the students.”
Bagchi also said that the Indian government is in touch with its Russian and Ukrainian counterparts for an immediate ceasefire so that Indian students can be evacuated safely and brought back to India.
He added, “We are deeply concerned about Indian students in Sumy, Ukraine. Have strongly pressed Russian and Ukrainian governments through multiple channels for an immediate ceasefire to create a safe corridor for our students.”
About 2000 Indian students are believed to be stuck in Kharkiv, Sumy and other parts of Ukraine.
