Manik's custody extended to 28 in teacher scam case, Anubrata's daughter summoned in animal smuggling case
The CBI had asked for Sukanya's income-expenditure account. On October 18, Sukanya has sent the income and expenditure documents sought by the CBI through e-mail. The ED has also sought the accounts of Sukanya-owned ANM Agrochem. CBI has issued notice to Sukanya's company ANM Agrochem Food Pvt Ltd. The CBI had summoned Sukanya and Vidyut Varan to demand a notice of income expenditure, but Sukanya replied to that notice by e-mail.
The judicial custody of Trinamool Congress MLA and former chairman of the Board of Elementary Education Manik Bhattacharya, arrested in Bengal teacher scam, has been extended to 28. On the end of his 14-day judicial custody, he was produced before the court on Tuesday, where the judge rejected his bail plea. The court sent Manik to judicial custody till October 28. During the hearing in the court, ED's counsel said that Manik Bhattacharya's wife has a joint account with a deceased person. There are three crore rupees in that bank account. After alleging that MLA Bhattacharya's son was also accused of illegal withdrawal, now the ED has also accused his wife of misappropriation of money from the bank account.
The ED told the court that the person with whom Manik Bhattacharya's wife has a joint account in the bank. His name is Mrityunjay Chakraborty, who has passed away in 2016, but the name has not been removed from the account yet. It has been informed that there are crores of rupees in this account. ED says that many benami properties have been found in the name of Manik Bhattacharya. Even the central probe agency told the court that in the recruitment corruption investigation, property has been found in the name of his son Shauvik.
The CBI on Tuesday filed a chargesheet in a court here against 12 people, including former West Bengal Central School Service Commission (WBCSSC) chairman Subiresh Bhattacharya, in connection with its probe into the Bengal teacher recruitment scam. According to information, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has named a former advisor, a former assistant secretary of WBCSSC, two former program officers of the commission and six others in the charge sheet submitted to the Special Judge, Alipore, a CBI official.
Of the 12 people named in the chargesheet, six are currently in judicial custody. These people include former chairman, former advisor and then assistant secretary of WBCSSC, chairman of an ad-hoc committee of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and two private persons.
