Mahashivratri 2023: Lakhs of devotees throng Pashupatinath temple on Mahashivaratri

Lakhs of devotees throng Pashupatinath on the occasion of Mahashivaratri. All the four doors of Pashupatinath have been opened since 3 am.There is an atmosphere of celebration in Pashupatinath. Every year special decorations are done in the temple premises on this occasion. Devotees are seen going for darshan carrying worship material. Treasurer of Pashupatinath Development Fund, Narayan Subedi said that keeping in view the crowd of devotees, arrangements have been made for the management.

Nepal Police spokesperson DIG Poshraj Pokharel said that 3500 policemen have been deployed for security. He estimates that by eight in the morning more than five lakh devotees visited Pashupatinath. Mahashivratri, which falls on Krishna Chaturdashi of Phalgun, has a special cultural significance. In the Pashupatinath area, there is a significant presence of sages, saints and devotees from India and abroad.In view of the crowd, the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Division has already informed through a press note that vehicles will be diverted.
