Life imprisonment for Yasin Malik in 2 cases; All sentences will run concurrently, Fine of 10 lakhs imposed
Yasin Malik has been taken to the NIA Court in Delhi, from where he will be taken to Tihar Jail shortly. Malik has been awarded life imprisonment in the matter.
Kashmir separatist leader Yasin Malik has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the NIA court in a terror funding case. NIA lawyer Umesh Sharma said- Yasin has been sentenced to life imprisonment in two cases and 10 years in 10 cases. All the sentences will run concurrently. Apart from this, this separatist leader will have to pay a fine of Rs 10 lakh.
Yasin was facing several cases related to funding terrorist attacks in Kashmir with the support of Pakistan and providing arms to terrorists. After the punishment of Yasin, security agencies issued an alert for a terrorist attack in Delhi-NCR.
After hearing the sentence, Yasin hugged his lawyer AP Singh. The security of Patiala House Court was tightened before the sentence was announced. On the other hand, many markets in Srinagar were closed. There is a heavy force stationed there. Incidents of stone-pelting were also reported in some areas. Mobile and internet services have been suspended in Srinagar and adjoining areas for the time being.

After being convicted, Malik told the court that he was guilty of sections 16 (terrorist activity), 17 (raising funds for terroristic activities), 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist acts), and 20 (member of terrorist group or organization) of UAPA. He does not want to challenge the charges against him under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the IPC. Malik has been imprisoned in Delhi's Tihar Jail since 2019.
