Achanta Sharath Kamal to receive Khel Ratna Award on November 30
Star table tennis player Archant Sharath Kamal has been selected for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, the country's highest sporting honor. He will be honored with this award on 30 November 2022.
25 players have also been selected for the Arjuna Award. The list includes names of stars like badminton players HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen, Aldos Paul, Avinash Sable, and boxer Nikhat Zareen.
With four Commonwealth Games gold medals, two Asian Games medals, three Olympic Games appearances as well as two ITTF Pro Tour titles, Sharath Kamal is the best table tennis player ever in Indian history.
He was born on 12 July 1982 in Chennai. His father Srinivasa Rao and uncle Muralidhar Rao played table tennis in their early days and then tried their hand at coaching.
Sharath Kamal started playing this game at the age of four. His father and uncle took up coaching, but Sharath still found it difficult to make a mark at the national level. This player's playing style was aggressive, due to which he could never achieve consistency.
