Kantara Chapter 1: Rukmini Vasanth Stuns as Kanakavathi | New Poster Out
The makers of Rishab Shetty’s much awaited film ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ which is a prequel to the blockbuster ‘Kantara’ released the first look of actress Rukmini Vasanth who plays the character of ‘Kanakavathi’ in the film today.

Hombale Films the production house of the film released the first look of the actress on their X timeline. It said, "Introducing @rukmini_vasanth as ‘KANAKAVATHI’ from the world of #KantaraChapter1. In Cinemas #KantaraChapter1onOct2 "
It may be recalled that the team had announced on July 21 this year that the film had been wrapped. They had also released a video then which gave a glimpse of how the film was made.

Born to Colonel Vasanth Venugopal, Rukmini was educated at Army School, Air Force School and Centre for Learning. She did her acting course from Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in Bloomsbury, London. Her father was the commanding officer of 9th battalion, Maratha Light Infantry. On July 31, 2007 he was killed while preventing heavily armed infiltrators from crossing the India-Pakistan border at Uri, Jammu and Kashmir. He was posthumously awarded Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest military decoration for peacetime gallantry.
Rukmini isn’t new to Kannada film industry. She started her career with Birbal Trilogy in 2019. Rukmini was critically acclaimed for her performance in Sapta Saagaradaache Ello Side A and B. In 2024 she has multiple releases namely Bagheera, Bhairathi Ranagal and Appudo Ippudo Eppudo. Rukmini starred with Vijay Sethupathi in Ace this year. Apart from Kantara Chapter 1, Rukmini will be seen in Madharaasi and NTR 31.
Kantara: Chapter 1 is set in Kadamba period in Karnataka. Kadambas were the rulers of parts of Karnataka and played a major role in shaping the architecture and culture of the region. That period was known as the Golden Period of Indian History.

Rishab Shetty is not just acting in Kantara but also directing it. It was in 2023 that Shetty announced that what we saw was actually part 2 and therefore what will be released next will be Kantara’s prequel.
“We are very pleased and thankful to the audience who had shown immense love and support to Kantara and taking the journey ahead, with the blessing of almighty Daiva the film has successfully completed 100 days and I would like to take this opportunity to announce the prequel of Kantara. What you have seen is actually Part 2, Part 1 will come next year," he had said.
Kantara Chapter 1 is all set to release worldwide on October 2, 2025, in Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, and English.
