Rahane said – Shreyas is going to debut in Kanpur.Unfortunately, KL Rahul is injured and will not be part of the squad for the next two Tests. So Shreyas will debut. However, Rahane has not yet disclosed the names of the rest of the players in the playing XI for the first Test. Even though Ajinkya Rahane has talked about Iyer's debut in place of Rahul, but there is no doubt that Iyer will be seen playing in place of Virat Kohli.

Kohli has been rested for the Kanpur Test. Iyer has consistently performed well for the Indian team in limited overs cricket. Shreyas has won many matches in first-class cricket by playing brilliant innings for Mumbai and India A. He is also seen playing at number-4 in the ODI format.
