Indian Navy Was Ready to Strike Karachi: For the four days of increased tensions between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, there were reports and speculation that the Indian Navy was planning to target Karachi harbour.
Vice Admiral A.N. Pramod, Director General of Naval Operations (DGNO), provided the true picture.

He indicated that, following drone attacks in several Indian cities, Indian Navy would participate in the Armed Forces' response to Pahalgam. His statement read, "immediately after the attack at Pahalgam, our carrier battle groups, surface forces, submarines and aviation assets were at sea and at the apex of combat readiness.
“We tested and refined tactics and procedures at sea during multiple weapon firings in the Arabian Sea within 96 hours of terrorist attack. The aim was to revalidate our crew, armaments, equipment and platform readiness to deliver various ordnance on selected targets precisely,” he said.

The Naval forces remained in a “deterrent posture with full readiness and capacity to strike select targets at sea and on land, including Karachi, at a time of our choosing.”
He added that the forward deployment of Indian Navy compelled Pakistani naval and air units to be in a defensive posture, mostly inside harbours or very close to the coast, which we monitored continuously,” he said.
He also revealed that Navy application of force was done in coordination with the Army and Airforce during its response to Pakistan's escalation.
“Along with the kinetic action by the Indian Army and Indian Air Force, the overwhelming operational edge of Indian Navy at sea contributed towards Pakistan’s urgent request for a ceasefire yesterday,” he said.
