The Indian Navy has made a landmark achievement as it has successfully test-fired a long-range version of the BrahMos cruise missile.
The Spokesperson of the Indian Navy has informed it in a tweet. It has attached a video of the launch of the cruise missile from a warship in the Indian Ocean.
The Navy has said that the test has validated the long-range precision strike capability of the advanced version of BrahMos cruise missile.
The Spokesperson of the Indian Navy’s tweet said, “Long range precision strike capability of Adv version of #BrahMos missile successfully validated. Pin point destruction of tgt demonstrated combat & mission readiness of frontline platforms. Yet another shot in the arm for #AatmaNirbharBharat”.
Since it is a supersonic missile, it travels faster than the sound of the speed in the air. The Navy’s tweet also informs that it strikes with precision after pinpointing the target to be destroyed.
The Indian Navy has been regularly carrying out these test firing of this cruise missile since 2006 onwards when it was inducted.
The BrahMos is a medium-range supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from warships, land, submarines or aircraft. It has been developed in a collaborative effort of the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Russian Federation's NPO Mashinostroyeniya.
