India registers 16,862 new COVID19 infections, lowest active cases in more than 7 months.
India's COVID19 tally exceeded 20 lakhs on August 7, 2020, 30 lakhs on August 23, 40 lakhs on September 5 and 50 lakhs on September 16.
India recorded 16,862 new coronavirus infections bringing the total number of COVID19 cases to 3,40.37,592, while active cases fell to 2.03,678, the lowest in 216 days, according to ministry data. Union Health updates Friday. The death toll rose to 4,51,814 with 379 new deaths, according to data updated at 8 a.m. The daily increase in new coronavirus infections was less than 30,000 for 21 consecutive days, and fewer than 50,000 new cases were reported daily for 110 consecutive days.
Active cases represent 0.60% of total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.07%, the highest since March 2020, the ministry said.
