New Delhi: In honour of Tokyo Olympic Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, The athletics federation of India has decided to hold a Javelin throw competition every year on August 7, the day Neeraj has won Olympic Gold medal. This is a unique gesture by the governing body of athletics in India,
on Tuesday, Lalit Bhanot, the Chairman of the Athletics Federation of India's Planning Committee announced that, AFI will organize a javelin throw competition every year on August 7. Neeraj Chopra clinched a historic Olympic Gold medal with the best throw of 87.58 in the men’s javelin final on August 7, 2021.
"Athletics Federation of India's planning committee has decided to further promote javelin throwing and will hold competitions every year throughout the country on August 7 as Neeraj Chopra won the gold in Tokyo on this day," Bhanot said in a felicitation program organized for Neeraj Chopra by the AFI.
