IIM Ahmedabad Alumnus Leaves Amazon Product Manager Role to Pursue Music Career
A former employee of Amazon and IIM graduate, quit his permanent position to pursue his passion for music.
IIM Ahmedabad: Anil Jangid, a former product manager at Amazon, as well as an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, has resigned from a peaceful and highly-paid corporate career to pursue his passion for music. Jangid's decision to leave a safe corporate job and become a singer has shocked many, particularly after a friend's interesting LinkedIn post, and has gained much traction on the platform.
In Tickoo's post he said Jangid is a humble and straightforward person who has been successful throughout his career. "I met him a few years ago; back then, he was a PM at Amazon. A set career — NITK, IIM Ahmedabad, 6-figure earning PM at Amazon — you know the drill," wrote Tickoo. Tickoo revealed that for all of Jangid's credentials and future opportunities at Amazon, it was never about these things. Jangid had a desire to have an impact outside of Amazon which compelled him to resign.

Tickoo went on to explain how Jangid frequently shared far-fetched ideas with him, some of them had an unusual and soulful articulation. "The first thing which no one would expect was that he left his job at Amazon at his peak for a risky startup," Tickoo recalled.
However Jangid's path took another unexpected turn about 18 months ago when he decided to pursue his passion for music. Tickoo both shared the story, how Jangid finally decided to do what his heart was calling him to do after a year of examining his life and where he was headed. Tickoo continued, "Around 2 months back, he pings me and sends me a picture of himself. Ripped like a supermodel. I asked him, 'Dude— you look awesome! What have you been doing?' He said — 'Bhai, last year I once again asked myself — what is it that I really want to do?'"
Jangid told Tickoo during this time he had written a song. Tickoo recalled his surprise: "I asked him, 'Did you record it as a hobby?' To which Anil, being Anil, said — 'Nahi bhai, I am trying to become a singer.'" Anil also shared finished song titled "#SunLoZara," and Tickoo was super impressed with the raw emotion and authenticity in both the song and in Jangid's approach to the new venture.
Tickoo thinks his friend's courage embodies the spirit of real change. “Many might say he is crazy. But then, as Apple rightly said: 'People who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who actually do.'”
The LinkedIn post has since gained traction, with many users openly admiring Jangid's courage. One user commented, "An inspiring story, Shravan! Anil's courage to follow his passion is a reminder for all of us to embrace our true selves." Another user praised Anil for his leap of faith, stating, "Respect! Courage like this deserves loud applause."
