Gujarat Assembly Election 2022: Arvind Kejriwal questions Uniform Civil Code in Gujarat
The Gujarat government on Saturday said it has decided to form a committee, headed by a retired high court judge, to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Union Minister Purushottam Rupala said that the committee will be formed before the model code of conduct for the elections comes into force.
Gujarat Assembly Election 2022: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday questioned the intention of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Gujarat to set up a committee to implement the Uniform Civil Code. Also, said that if BJP wants to do this then it should be done in the whole country.
According to news agency Pretr, Kejriwal asked whether the BJP-led central government was waiting for the Lok Sabha elections to take steps in this direction. The National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was addressing a press conference in Bhavnagar on the third day of his visit to Gujarat. Assembly elections are due in Gujarat later this year. The Election Commission may announce the schedule of Gujarat Assembly elections this week.

Gujarat's Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi said the decision was taken in accordance with the provisions of Article 44 of Part IV of the Constitution, which requires the state government to apply uniform laws to all citizens.
On the third day of his Gujarat tour, Kejriwal welcomed local Koli community leader and social activist Raju Solanki to AAP. He has joined the party along with his son Brijraj Singh Solanki. Kejriwal said that ever since AAP started working in Gujarat, people are seeing a new ray of hope in his party. The Koli community comes under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category with a numerically significant presence in various parts of Gujarat. Kejriwal described Raju Solanki as a prominent social worker who helped in the marriage of over 1,000 orphan women and worked in the areas of prohibition and education. The social worker said that he is happy to be a part of Kejriwal's new politics.
