Former Mumbai North MP Sanjay Nirupam Claims Congress Expelled Him for 6 Years After Resignation Letter Submission
In response to complaints of indiscipline and anti-party statements, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge expelled Nirupam from the party immediately for six years.
Former Mumbai North MP Sanjay Nirupam Claims Congress Expelled Him for 6 Years: On Thursday, Sanjay Nirupam said his expulsion from the Congress party was orchestrated shortly after he resigned.
In response to complaints of indiscipline and anti-party statements, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge expelled Nirupam from the party immediately for six years.
At around 10:40 on Thursday, Sanjay Nirupam said he had resigned and sent it to Mallikarjun Kharge.
"Looks like, immediately after the party received my resignation letter last night, they decided to issue my expulsion," Sanjay Nirupam wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter). "Good to see such promptness," he added.
Nirupam wrote to Kharge, “I have finally decided to fulfil your much awaited desire and hereby announce that I chose to resign from the primary membership of the All India Congress Committee."
Due to his recent remarks regarding seat-sharing with INDIA bloc partner Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), Congress removed his name from the list of star campaigners.
In response to the party's decision to let the Shiv Sena (UBT) claim the Mumbai North West Lok Sabha seat, Nirupam expressed dissatisfaction.
Nirupam warned the Sena against taking an "extreme stand." He suggested the alliance between the Congress party and Uddhav Thackeray's Sena might be self-destructive.
During the seat-sharing discussions within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance for the Lok Sabha elections, Nirupam was criticized by the Maharashtra Congress leadership for conceding constituencies in Mumbai to the Uddhav Thackeray-led party.
According to Nirupam, he will decide on April 4 whether to remain in or leave the Congress party.
In 2009, Nirupam won the Mumbai North seat after quitting Shiv Sena. In 2014, he lost the same seat to BJP's Gopal Shetty.
