Flood havoc in Assam: More than 2 lakh people affected in 24 districts, 7 killed so far; Heavy rain alert in Kerala
A total of 652 villages in 46 revenue divisions of 20 districts have been affected by the floods so far. To provide relief to the people, about 55 relief camps have been opened in seven districts, in which 32 thousand 959 people have been given shelter. NDRF, Army, SDRF personnel are engaged in rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected areas.
The situation has worsened in Assam due to the floods. So far more than 2 lakh people have been affected by the floods in 24 districts including Cachar, Charaideo, Darang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, and Dima Hasao. So far 7 people have died due to floods and landslides. The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert of heavy rain in 4 districts of Kerala.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the hilly district of Dima Hasao has been cut off from the rest of the state following the landslides triggered by the rains. Communication is completely closed. All roads and railway lines leading to Haflong have been closed since May 15.
Roads, and bridges have been damaged in many districts due to incessant rains. Crops have been destroyed. Many rivers are flowing above the danger mark. Two deaths were reported in the Cachar district due to floods, while in Dima Hasao, three deaths were caused by landslides.
