After the US drug regulator, Food and Drug Administration has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine on December 11, US President Donal Trump has called it a medical miracle.
Trump said that the US has delivered a safe effective vaccine in just nine months.
“This is one of the greatest scientific accomplishments in history. It will save millions of lives soon and end the pandemic once and for all,” Trump said.
He said that he was thrilled to report that FDI had authorized the Pfizer vaccine.
According to Trump, the US government spent huge money on companies that are into vaccine development.
“On behalf of the American people, I would like to thank all of the brilliant scientists, technicians, doctors, and workers who made this all possible,” Trump said.
Both Pfizer and Moderna have announced that their vaccines are approximately 95 percent effective. Trump said that this is far exceeding expectations.
“These vaccines are also very safe. American citizens participated in clinical trials for larger than normal and had no serious side effects. The dedicated and independent experts at FDA meticulously studied the results of the trial and it has now passed the gold standard of safety,” He said.
Trump stated that his administration provided a total of $14 billion to accelerate vaccine development to manufacture all of the top candidates in advance.
“This included a nearly $2 billion investment in Pfizer to produce 100 million doses of the vaccine with an option to produce 500 million additional doses. I am proud to say that we have made sure this vaccine would be free for all Americans,” Trump said.
He added, “We have started shipping the vaccine to every state of the country. The first vaccine will be administered in less than 24 hours.”
