Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma's helicopter made an emergency landing near the beautiful Umiam lake on Wednesday after it failed to land at the Advance Landing Ground (ALG) in Upper Shillong due to bad weather. The Chief Minister was returning from an official tour of his constituency in the Garo Hills in the western part of the state.
Taking to Twitter, he said the helicopter had to land at the United Christian College Ground near Umiam Lake due to bad weather and enjoyed the beautiful scenery on the campus. Met the college staff and had lunch in the canteen.
"The weather is really unpredictable. Thanks to the captain and the pilot for bringing us back safely," he said. In a short video accompanying the tweet, the Chief Minister is seen sharing with others the story of the emergency landing on his way to college from the ground and having lunch. "We diverted for security reasons and that's good. We will find a way back to the city," he said. In another Twitter post, he shared some photos from his visit to the college, saying, "Inclement weather on the way from Tura led to an emergency landing at UCC in Umiam but enjoyed the beautiful campus view during my walk and appreciated their hospitality. Had a great time there. What a day!
