As per the latest reports from Dubai’s International Airport (DXB), the world’s busiest airport will shut one of its two runways for 45 days in the month of May. This has been done as the airport authorities have decided to upgrade the airfield, as per the Airport Officials. This will affect the flight operations tremendously, as May is the peak of the summer season and flights stay relatively busy during that time of the year.
The Authorities added that “The shutdown of the northern runway as part of a project to upgrade the airfield to ensure safe and efficient operations, will begin on May 9 and last until June 22.” The DXB is the hub of the airline Emirates. Due to regular maintenance and up gradation, the decision has been taken.
Some flights will be moved to Dubai’s second airport, the Al Maktoum International Airport, while the northern runaways undergo closure. After Covid, this will be the second time the Al Maktoum International Airport will be handling scheduled Commercial Passenger Services. This isn’t the first time that the DXB has been closed due to regular maintenance. The airport underwent similar extensive repairs last in 2014, while the southern runway was similarly refurbished in 2019.
