A remark by Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu in which he said, “People At Top Want Weak Chief Minister” is being seen as his frustration and attack on Rahul Gandhi for not considering him for the Punjab CM post.
The Congress has as of now not declared the name of the CM face in the forthcoming elections in Punjab. The party has launched a public poll in which it has asked people to decide to voter for three options – (a) the current chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi (b) Navjot Singh Sidhu and (c) none of the two as the party should go to the election without any CM face.
The results of the are not out yet but it is expected that Rahul Gandhi will announce it soon.
Meanwhile, Navjot Singh Sidhu spoke to his supporters and said, “If a new Punjab has to be made, it is in the hands of the Chief Minister. You have to choose the Chief Minister this time. People at the top want a weak Chief Minister who can dance to their tunes. Do you want such type of a Chief Minister?"
Though people close to Sidhu have defended him as they say that by saying that people on the top want a weak prime minister, he targeted the Centre.
However, many others feel that Sidhu is upset as Charanjit Singh Channi has got tickets to contest elections from two constituencies. It suggests that Congress Party want to ensure his victory in the forthcoming election as he seems to be ahead in the race of the CM.
