Delhi riots: SC gives 3 months time to HC on FIR against BJP leaders
The Supreme Court has given three months to the Delhi High Court to decide on a petition seeking registration of an FIR against four BJP leaders, including Union Minister Anurag Thakur.
The Supreme Court has given three months to the Delhi High Court to decide on a petition seeking registration of an FIR against four BJP leaders, including Union Minister Anurag Thakur. The petition filed in the Delhi High Court has alleged that the alleged hate speeches and comments of these leaders instigated the Delhi riots of 2020.
The petition, filed by three victims of the Delhi violence, had sought registration of an FIR and probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) against BJP's Kapil Mishra, Parvesh Verma and Abhay Verma as well as Sports Minister Anurag Thakur.
The petitioners also sought constitution of an independent Special Investigation Team with officials from outside Delhi to investigate the riot cases, compensation for the victims and safekeeping of CCTV footage and evidence of violence.
Senior Advocate Dr. Colin Gonsalves in the Supreme Court, appearing for the petitioners, said that they are "losing hope" as the Delhi High Court is delaying the proceedings.
