A bill to integrate the three Municipal Corporations (MCDs) of Delhi was passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Responding to the objections of the opposition members on the bill, Home Minister Amit Shah said that this bill has been brought to make MCD self-reliant and streamline its services. He accused the Delhi government of treating MCDs step-motherly and not giving the share as per the recommendation of the State Finance Commission.
During the presentation of the MCD Bill 2022, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that it is absolutely correct under the Constitution. Meanwhile, he said that after organizing the three municipal corporations, a Delhi municipal corporation should be formed again. Home Minister Amit Shah said that Delhi being a union territory, the Indian government has every right to pass any law relating to it.
Home Minister Amit Shah urged the House to consider the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (Amendment) Bill. Apart from this, Union Minister Shah also said that this MCD Bill 2022 comes under the powers vested in the Parliament as per Article 239AA of the Constitution.
