Delhi government will soon open 500 new liquor contracts, 700 new shops will open by the end of the year
Excise policy 2021-22 will end from September 1 and instead the Delhi government will implement the old system. There is good news for the liquor drinkers in Delhi. The Delhi government is planning to open 500 new liquor shops in Delhi soon. Liquor shops will be available in the capital as before but will have to wait a bit. According to reports, the Delhi government will open 500 shops in the city from September 1. Under the old liquor policy, the exercise of opening liquor shops has been started in the capital from September 1. With this, 200 more liquor shops will open by 31 December 2022.
A meeting of licensees of wholesale and retail liquor shops was held at the Delhi Secretariat on Thursday, in which the officials sought their suggestions on the new excise policy. Top officials of the government including the Chief Secretary attended the meeting. Let us tell you that the Delhi government has withdrawn its new excise policy 2021-22 and has decided to adopt the old excise system for running liquor shops in Delhi through its four undertakings from September 1. However, the government has also constituted a committee to prepare a new excise policy.
If reports are to be believed, there will be a total of 700 liquor shops in Delhi and each corporation will have five premium outlets that will sell big brands of liquor. Out of these five outlets, two can be opened by the end of this month while the rest will be opened by December 31. A sub-committee of the Delhi government has given a report of its own. It has been said in this report that four Delhi Government Undertakings – Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC), DSIIDC, DCCWS and DSCSC will make arrangements to open 500 liquor shops by the end of this month.
