Cyclone Fengal will make landfall on Saturday (November 30) with 50-60 kmph winds gusting to 70 kmph along Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram, says Indian Meteorological Department in its latest update today morning.
In its update at 8.46 am today on X, IMD said the deep depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal moved northwards with a speed of 2 km/h in the last 6 hours, about 110 km east-northeast of Trincomalee.

"To cross north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram around 30th November morning as a deep depression with 50-60 kmph winds gusting to 70 kmph. There is a possibility of marginal intensification of the deep depression into a Cyclonic Storm with 65-75 kmph winds gusting to 85 kmph over southwest Bay of Bengal during 28th November evening to 29th November 2024," says IMD.
Schools And Colleges To Be Closed In These Areas
Puducherry administration has decided to close schools and colleges today (Thursday) due to weather alert and rain. Education Minister Arumugam Namassivayam said the decision was taken for the safety of students. Schools will be closed in Kodaikanal town of Dindigul district and schools and colleges will be closed in Nagapattinam district.
On Wednesday, schools and colleges holiday was declared in Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts. Schools were declared holiday in Chennai, Chengelpet, Ariyalur and Kanchipuram.

Rains Continue In TN, Crops Damaged In Cauvery Delta
Tamil Nadu witnessed sporadic rains on Wednesday and standing paddy crops in Cauvery delta areas were submerged partially and fully at several places including Tiruvarur, Thiruthuraipoondi, Muthupettai, Mayiladuthurai and Vedaranyam. According to farmers, at least 2,000 acres of crops were affected, PTI.
Wind warning for land areas
IMD has forecast strong winds of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph in coastal and adjoining areas of Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on Thursday. Similarly, on Friday and Saturday strong winds of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph in north coastal and adjoining areas of Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Warning for fishermen
Fishermen out at sea in Tamil Nadu, return to the coast immediately and do not venture into these areas during this period.
Sea condition will be very rough on Thursday and Friday (Nov 28 and 29) as squally winds of 55-65 kmph (gusting to 75 kmph) are likely to prevail over Tamil Nadu coast and Gulf of Mannar. Squally winds of 45-55 kmph (gusting to 65 kmph) in some parts of Comorin area.
