In an emergency, central and state agencies are working nonstop, said the governor.
Heavy showers which caused disruption from Cyclone Fengal finally engulfed hospitals and homes across Chennai and surrounding areas on Saturday while civic authorities were"working on a war-footing" to evacuate waterlogged areas. Barricades and umbrellas were uprooted by gusty winds, forcing road users to take shelter while Cyclone Fengal passed closer towards the coastline. Leaving several areas submerged within the city, surrounding regions were greatly affected.
Full of exhortation to people but banning it on beaches by high tides would also be worthy of visitations on the shorelines, the report added as PTI noted seeing many people frolicking on the coasts. Visitors were also spotted at Mamallapuram World Heritage site, defying advisories. Coastal areas like Marakkanam in Villupuram district were reported to have received high wind speed.
