Complete failure of law and order in Punjab: Amarinder Singh
Singh said that if the state government cannot provide a safe passage to the Prime Minister of the country at a location that is just 10 km from Pakistan’s border then the current CM should quit.
Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has lashed out at the Punjab government for the alleged lapse in the Prime Minister’s security and asked the present Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi to step down immediately. He said that if the state government cannot provide a safe passage to the Prime Minister of the country at a location that is just 10 km from Pakistan’s border then the current CM should quit.
He expressed his displeasure in a tweet and said, "Complete failure of law and order in Punjab, CM and HM Punjab, in particular. When you cannot provide smooth passage to the Prime Minister of the country and that too just 10km from the Pakistan border, you have no right to stay in office and should quit!"
Other BJP leaders also slammed the CM for being so unconcerned with such a serious issue. BJP chief JP Nadda in a tweet, said, “State Police was instructed to prevent people from attending the rally...CM Channi refused to get on the phone to either address the matter or solve it.”
Even former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar, too joined others in criticising his own CM as he said that the breach of PM’s security was unacceptable and against Punjabiyat.
Posting his comment in a tweet, he said, “What has happened today is just not acceptable. It's against Panjabiyat.”
“A secure passage for the Prime Minister of India to address BJP's political rally in Ferozpur should have been ensured. That's how democracy works," he added.
