Chennai Man Loses Cancer Treatment Funds: A 26-yr-old man committed suicide allegedly after spending money saved for his mother's cancer treatment on an online game of rummy, police said on Saturday.
The deceased, Akash, stayed in Saidapet. He pursued a course in catering and was subsequently employed in the food industry. Akash lived with his mother and brother after his father's demise about eight years ago.

According to police, Akash had used the entire Rs 30,000 saved by his mother for her treatment for cancer to play an online rummy game, which Akash was addicted to during the COVID-19 pandemic.
His family members, including his brother, scolded him when they found out about it this past Friday. Upset with that, Akash left home and is unreachable on his mobile phone, which has been switched off.
Worried family and friends searched many homes of friends and relatives but did not find him. He is indeed found dead on the terrace of his apartment, police said.

Later, Akash went missing on a Friday evening, after which his mother and brother began their frantic search. Since his mobile phone was turned off, they checked with one of his friends' houses and searched some relatives' homes. Around 3:30 am on Saturday, the family members checked the terrace and discovered that Akash had died by suicide by strangling himself with the TV cable wire in one of the rooms on the terrace, the TOI report said.
The Kotturpuram police sent his body and started an investigation into the incident, the report added.
