CBI's big action in the murder of shooter Sippy Sidhu, judge's daughter arrested after 6 years
The case was handed over to the CBI in January 2016 following the intervention of the Punjab Governor. In September the same year, the CBI announced ₹5 lakh for those providing clues to those involved in the murder. As the case progressed, in December 2021, the CBI increased the reward for leads to ₹10 lakh.
The CBI has taken a big action in the murder of national level shooter Sippy Sidhu in Chandigarh about seven years ago. The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday arrested Kalyani Singh, daughter of Acting Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court Sabina, accused in the case. According to sources, the accused Kalyani Singh was with the person who shot Sippy Sidhu.
The court has given four-day remand to CBI for questioning Kalyani Singh. The role of the accused has been suspected by the CBI since the initial stages of the investigation in 2016 as it had repeatedly said that a woman was with the killer. The bullet-ridden body of national level shooter and lawyer Sukhmanpreet Singh alias Sippy Sidhu was found on 15 September 2015 in a park in Sector 27, Chandigarh. Sidhu, 35, lived in Mohali. He was the grandson of Justice SS Sidhu, a former judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The CBI had filed an 'untraceable report' in the court in 2020, seeking continuation of the probe into the 'role of a woman'. The untrace report was opposed by Sippy's family after which the investigation resumed further. In the investigation, the CBI told the court that the murder was done with a small weapon (gun) and an old Zen car was also seen on the spot after the murder. In the latest hearing, the CBI had sought one month's time to file the status report.
