According to the reports, the Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a charge-sheet in this case on Monday. Along with justice Shukla, the former Chhattisgarh High Court judge I M Quddusi and three other persons have also been charge-sheeted in this matter.
The investigating agency had lodged a First Information Report in 2019 after preliminary findings of the case which had come to light in 2017. The allegations of corruption were uncommon and rare against a retired and a sitting judge.
The matter pertains to a medical college that wanted an order from the court to give admissions to students during an academic session when the Supreme Court direction had barred it beyond a specific time lime.
According to the allegations he took money to pass such an order so that the college could admit students and make money.
Due to various allegations of corruption, the government had also replaced the Medical Council of India (MCI) with a new regulatory body known as National Medical Commission (NMC) with an aim to bring fairness in granting approval to medical colleges in India.
The MNC Act also has a provision under which all the employees of the MCI were removed from the service and fresh employees were recruited to the National Medical Commission so that the new body could work with a fresh outlook and approach.
