CBI arrests Birbhum's TMC district chief Anubrata Mandal in cattle smuggling case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) Birbhum district president Anubrata Mandal from his residence. Anubrata has been arrested for not cooperating in the investigation of cattle smuggling case. A CBI team reached the house of TMC's Birbhum district president in the early hours of Thursday and arrested him after an hour-long interrogation, an official said.
A CBI official said, "We have arrested him for not cooperating in the investigation of the cattle smuggling scam." He said that Mandal has been taken to the hospital for a health check-up.
The investigating agency had called the TMC leader for questioning twice in the last few days but he did not turn up citing ill health.
On September 21, 2020, the CBI arrested a former Border Security Force (BSF) commander in connection with illegal cattle smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Sources said that Anubrata Mondal's name came under the scanner during the investigation of the case. Sources said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had on August 5 sent a notice to Mandal for questioning in a cattle smuggling case. Mandal was asked to appear in the CBI office at Nizam's Palace in Kolkata on Monday.
