Bullet Train Update: NHSRCL Launches 100-Metre ‘Make In India’ Steel Bridge in Silvassa – 4th of 28 Planned

Bullet Train Update: On the Bullet Train project front, it’s almost becoming a weekly affair that some vital benchmarks are once again being met and now, yet another Indian made steel bridge, this time in Silvassa in Dadra & Nagar Haveli are being completed.
It is also the fourth steel bridge constructed for the Bullet Train area from a total of 28 that will be constructed.
It is 100 metre long and was inaugurated on Sunday and the formal announcement was made by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) on Monday.

The statement added, “This 1,464 MT steel bridge, 14.6 metre in height and 14.3 metre in width, has been fabricated at the workshop in Trichy, Tamil Nadu and was transported on trailers to the site for installation.”
“A temporary launching nose spanning 84 metre and weighing 600 MT was connected with the main bridge for launching, to avoid any intermediate support. Additional temporary members were also installed to strengthen the bridge during launching.”
At least, 27500 high strength friction grip bolts were used for joining the components of launching nose while at least 55250 tor-shear type high strength (TTHS) bolts accompanied with C5 system painting and cofriendly elastomeric bearings were used for the main bridge.
The body building the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR) explained.
“The steel bridge along with launching nose were assembled near the site at a height of 14.5 metre from the ground on temporary trestles and was pulled with an automatic mechanism of two semi-automatic jacks, each of capacity of 250 tons using mac-alloy bars.”
This is the fourth steel bridge for the project, out of all these mentioned, all were launched in the last one year. Also, this is the first of steel bridges beyond the state of Gujarat.
First three were at Gujarat: Over national highway 53 in Surat, in October 2023, over Vadodara-Ahmedabad main railway near Nadiad in April 2024, over Delhi-Mumbai expressway near Vadodara in June 2024.

Earlier last week, News18 had published that the particular project is in progress at its best speed and 10 river bridges are under construction in Gujarat. For the project there will be 24 river bridges only in Gujarat.
The work on the project began in September, 2017. Actually, it was planned to be finished by the end of the year 2023/2024 financial year before the end of December. However, it slows down and; therefore, one of the stretches could be started as early as in 2026.
The stretches performance of the project is 508 km with 12 stations which are situated in the three states of Maharashtra 156 km, Dadra and Nagar Haveli 4 km, and Gujarat 384 km.
The trains on the corridor will travel at a speed of 320 km/hour. Every day there will be 35 trains travelling in one direction. Every 20 minutes, the trains will come during busy times, and every 30 minutes, during less busy times.
The control centre for the corridor will be located in Sabarmati and it will have limited stops.
