BJP Defends Anurag Thakur: On Wednesday, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi defended Anurag Thakur, Hamirpur MP, as he protested in Lok Sabha, giving remarks over the caste census on Rahul Gandhi. It was a clear indication that he was attacking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
BJP party strongly defended its PM and said Anurag Thakur did not take anyone's name during his speech and then questioned the opposition party, “... Udta teer kisne pakad liya apne upar? (who has then automatically targeted themselves)?” Then he likens it to the popular Hindi proverb ‘chor ki dhadhi me tinka’ which means (guilty conscience needs no accuser).
The saffron party also added that the Congress-led India bloc is confused. “Akhilesh Yadav on the floor of the House said, ‘How can you ask someone their caste?’ but then went on to say, 'ask the caste of the entire country' (referring to his demand for caste census). What is your stand? Should one ask or not?...”

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari labelled Gandhi as "divider in-chief" whose "master plan to divide the country" has been exposed. "He is the same Rahul Gandhi who used ask the journalist...what is your caste? Ask every individual of the country their caste and when you are asked the same question then you get furious?" Bhandari said.
“The number of 99 and the arrogance of the Congress... When Anurag Thakur spoke on Tuesday without naming anyone, why did only one person feel bad, and at his direction, all members of Congress stood up? The caste of media personnel, administrative officers, judges and Army soldiers can be asked but if someone asks you your caste, you say 'mummy, mummy' and say that I have been insulted," Lok Sabha MP and BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said at a press conference.
Patra said asking about Rahul’s cast was considered offensive, but at the same time he was enquiring about other's cast, "There was no objection when Rahul Gandhi asked about the caste of people at the halwa ceremony and also mentioned the caste of judges and soldiers," he added.

He added that Rahul was trying to mislead and disrespect the cast of PM Modi. In a speech, Rahul Gandhi claimed that Modi was from the 'Ghanchi Teli' caste. Union minister Pralhad Joshi said, "He (Thakur) didn't ask the caste. Those who don't know caste are speaking about caste census."
"He didn't name anyone, so why are you taking it upon yourself? They need an excuse. The intention is to divert the issue. From Pandit Nehru to Indira Gandhi to Rajiv Gandhi, everybody has opposed reservation for OBC."
