Bengal Politics sees a full circle – TMC to BJP, Back to TMC
Rajib Banerjee, Former Bengal Minister turned turncoat meets TMC state general secretary triggering speculations of ‘ghar wapsi’
Rumours of Mass exodus of turncoats from BJP to return to Mamata-led TMC
'Ghar Wapsi' of Rajib Banerjee
Former West Bengal Minister and BJP leader, Rajib Banerjee’s approximately 2 hours meeting with State General Secretary of Trinamool Congress Kunal Ghosh has started a new grapevine. Rumour mills are busy speculating that as many as 50 turncoats will return to their old party. Even though, Ghosh claimed Banerjee was on a ‘courtesy call’ – speculations are now rife that after Mukul Roy – turncoats returning will be easier.
As early as 26th May, we at The National Bulletin had foreseen such a turn of events in our article https://thenationalbulletin.in/bjps-ship-rocks-in-tornado-after-sonali-guha-3-more-tmc-leaders-appeal-to-didi-for-ghar-wapsi. Then the buzz was about Sonali Guha, Sarala Murmu, Jitendra Tiwari and Amol Acharya.
Banerjee – a two term Minister in Bengal – had switched over to BJP and had unsuccessfully contested from Domjur assembly seat representing the BJP. His meeting is just the latest in a string of developments indicating there might be a mass exodus from the right wing political outfit.
Mamata Banerjee is famous for decimating her political opponents. She earlier went after Congress and then the left parties in Bengal – both of these parties are now politically dead in Bengal. Now, after the extremely dismal performance of Modi-Shah from the promised 200+ tally, the focus is squarely on the Hindu-appeasing right wing outfit. She will use all tricks in the trade to reduce BJP politically – enticing, cajoling, trading or even threatening.
Rajib Banerjee’s recent absence from a recent BJP’s state level meeting (Mukul Roy and Shamik Bhattacharya were the other absentees) and his "people will not take kindly to threats of Presidents rule against a government elected with a huge mandate" social media message was indicative enough. His recent meeting just added the extra spark to the already rife speculations.
Meanwhile on Friday, After Mukul Roy's return to TMC, an elated Mamata Banerjee said that more people will come out of the BJP and join her party in the days to come.
"Mukul (Roy) is our old member and he has come back. He was not in a good condition in the BJP because the saffron party created pressure on him through agencies, as a result, he was not in mental peace. I was watching that his health condition had also deteriorated because one cannot stay in the BJP. It is a heartless party and no human being can stay there," Mamata Banerjee said maybe giving the other turncoats the reason to cite when they want to rejoin their old party.
