Applaud for Enterprising Spirit of Meghalaya Organic Farmers' Union: PM Modi
PM Narendra Modi spoke via video conference with Revistar Kharumnuid, the chief of the Ri-Bhoi district organic farmers union.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised a Meghalaya Organic Farmers' Union for its enterprising spirit, said Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday. Earlier in the day, the PM spoke via video conference with Revistar Kharumnuid, the president of the Ri-Bhoi district organic farmers union.
CM Sangma said on Twitter that PM Modi was pleased with the organization's entrepreneurial spirit.
He tweeted: "Hon'ble PM @narendramodi Ji also met with Revistar Kharumnuid, CEO of Eastern Ri Bhoi Organic Producer Company Ltd., founded under GoI's #MissionOrganic Value Chain Development of NER. He appreciates the PM's words of encouragement".
"The Company employs 500 farmers and serves 16 villages in the Ri Bhoi District. It focuses on organic ginger farming and other organic intercrops, and its products are sold on e-commerce platforms such as India Mart" he added.
On Friday, the prime minister distributed the eighth instalment of over 20,000 crores to over 9.5 crore farmer beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.
The government provides 6,000 in three equal instalments to 14 crore farmers per year through the PM-KISAN scheme. The funds are transferred directly into the beneficiaries' bank accounts through direct benefit transfer (DBT).
"To further assist KCC farmers, the #Meghalaya Govt approved a 2% interest subvention amounting to 4.12 Cr. to over 26,540 farmers in 2020-21," Mr Sangma tweeted.
