As a second-term president, he has been imposing new tariffs on different nations, including China, since January 20. This action threatens a worldwide trade war while also upset financial markets in many countries, including India such that most from where imports have been levied by tariffs have raised eyebrows.
Besides raising fears of a trade war, Donald Trump's import tariffs have also dashed hopes of mild inflation increases in the United States.
All steel and aluminum imports will thus be branded with tariffs beginning March 12, imports from China carry 10% tariffs, and goods from neighboring countries Canada and Mexico will be placed under a 30-day holding period before imposition of tariffs.
PM Modi will travel to the United States with the purpose of going to the Oval Office meeting with General Donald Trump.
The time is 4 p.m. local time, or 1900 GMT.
He would also host a joint press conference with Trump.
