15 meters of Yamunotri Highway collapses in Uttarkashi, 4200 pilgrims stranded
The road has to be widened by cutting the hill. Since the road is rocky on the upper side, it will take time, so the road is likely to be ready by Thursday evening for large vehicular movement.
25 km before Yamunotri Dham, 15 meters of Yamunotri Highway near Ranachatti collapsed. Only small vehicles can pass through here. Due to this, 1200 passengers coming from Jankichatti to Barkot through buses and about 3,000 passengers traveling from Barkot to Jankichatti are stuck between Barkot and Sayanachatti.
District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said that the team of National Highway Authority of Barkot section near Ranachatti is busy in making the highway smooth.
Due to more than half of the road being submerged, it became difficult for large buses of passengers to pass. Only small vehicles of passengers are able to pass somehow. Devotees who had come for the journey in big vehicles got stuck due to the blockage of the road.
