According to the information, 179 passengers, including 19 children, were on board the chartered flight from Milan, which reached Amritsar at around 1.30 pm.
According to officials, this chartered flight made a technical stop in Tbilisi (Georgia). It was reportedly operated by a Portuguese company EuroAtlantic Airways.
The flight was a charter flight, although it was earlier reported that it belonged to Air India. Air India tweeted that "Several media houses have reported that passengers of an Air India flight from Rome to Amritsar have tested positive. This is false and baseless. Air India is not currently operating any flights from Rome."
According to the report of NDTV, Airport Director VK Seth has informed that only after reaching Amritsar, the passengers were found corona positive in the test. Significantly, more than 90,000 new corona cases have been registered in the country today.
The central government on Thursday, January 6, wrote to nine states and union territories to increase testing for COVID-19 as the country grapples with a new wave of the pandemic. Punjab is one of those states where the central government has warned about insufficient testing.
