US Grants Emergency Visa: The United States embassy has granted an emergency visa on Friday to the family of the Indian student, Neelam Shinde, who went into a coma after a serious road accident in California.
The father of Neelam Shinde said the family will leave for the US on Saturday.
“I received a phone call from her roommate on February 16. However, she didn't tell me about the accident. Later, she informed Neelam's uncle about it. She is still in a coma.
However, her condition has improved slightly. We came here (to the embassy). They took our interview and granted visas in half an hour. We will leave (for the US) tomorrow (Saturday)," Tanhaji Shinde told news agency PTI.

"Neelam sustained major injuries, and she is in a coma. The Central and State governments did a good job in helping us. Initially, we tried to book a slot for the US Visa through agents, but when the news reached the government through the media, they stepped in to assist. We request the Indian government to simplify the Emergency Visa process so that families in distress can get help faster," he said.
Nilam Shinde suffered fractures and injuries to her chest and head after a four-wheeler hit her. Her family learnt of the accident two days later. The hospital sought permission to operate on her brain, according to the family.
"We got to know about the accident on February 16 and have been trying for a visa since then. But we haven't got it yet," her father, Tanaji Shinde, said.
