PM Modi Reveals Fresh Insights on Katchatheev: "New details about India handing over Katchatheevu to Sri Lanka have revealed the DMK's double standards," Narendra Modi said in an interview on X.

In 1974, Indira Gandhi's Congress government handed over Katchatheevu to Sri Lanka through the Right To Information (RTI).

The External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, also criticized the DMK and Congress over Katchatheevu.
According to Jaishankar, 6,184 Indian fishermen have been detained by Sri Lanka in the last 20 years, and 1,175 Indian fishing vessels have been seized, detained, or apprehended.
Although the matter is "the subject of correspondence between the state and union governments... every political party in Tamil Nadu has taken a position."
"We know who did this, what we don't know is who hid it. We believe that the public has the right to know how this situation came up" said the External Affairs Minister.
In response to Mallikarjun Kharge's question, the DMK said the BJP was playing blame games and wasn't willing to discuss its achievements.
